My son is in kindergarten and just learning to spell. So to help him I created this "Spell Helper".

We can play games and see how many three letter words he can spell. Plus as his volcabulary increases I can make add on pieces for longer words. And the best part? It's simple to make and you can use what scrap you have lying around to assemble it.

Here's how I made it:

Gather your materials. You will need the following items to complete this project.

Tools:
12 inch Trimmer
Zutter Bind It All
12 inch ruler

Supplies:
1 set Zutter 12x12 Chipboard Covers
One Zutter 12 inch 1 inch diameter and two ¾ inch O-Wires: Black
Heide Swapp Patterned Paper
Bazzill White Cardstock: 7 sheets
Bazzill Black Cardstock: 1 sheet
Maya Road Sheer Alphas: Smoke
adhesive

Before starting, remember: Measure twice, cut once.

Cut one Zutter 12x12 Chipboard cover in half. Cover each side of each half with patterned paper. Punch 22 holes for O-wire on top and bottom of each half.

Cut 78 3x4 inch rectangles from white cardstock. Center these in Bind It All and punch 6 holes for O-wire in each.

Cut one 6x12 inch black cardstock piece. Fold in half and punch 22 holes in half opposite fold.

Assemble Spell Helper with 1 inch O-wire on top with 26 3x4 cardstock pieces starting at one edge, two spaces, 26 additional pieces in the middle, two spaces and 26 pieces ending at other edge. Bind.

Assemble base with chipboard and black cardstock on each side bound with ¾ inch O-wire.

Glue on alphas: a-z on each set of 26 cardstock pieces. Start learning!
